We woke up this morning to our first drops of rain. We have had beautiful weather so far. With the exception of getting around Chicago, it has been a great drive. Interstate 80 goes through farmlands as far as the eye can see. I am glad we tackled Chicago on a Sunday afternoon. I cannot imagine what it would be like during the week or rush hour. What a harrowing experience especially after driving for almost six hours at that point. Yesterday was one of two legs of our trip that is at least 400 miles of driving. That is definitely my limit, but it was an easy drive. We made it through Indiana and most of Illinois arriving at the campground around 7:45 PM EST, but now we are on Central Time so it was really 6:45. We are about 2 miles from the Mississippi River and Iowa. It is hard to believe we have made it this far. The weather is been very pleasant mostly in the low 80's. We have been driving with our windows down most of the trip, which has been interesting to say the least for Teresa. Somewhere on Saturday, a bird with great precision pooped on her right leg that she had propped on the window. Absolutely none got on the truck inside or out. Then yesterday a bee and a black bug flew in and hit her square in her sunglasses. Only Teresa....After we cooked dinner last night, we drove down the road to a real nice casino that we saw as we drove in so Teresa could play the penny slots. She is a real big spender! Today we will be off to Omaha Nebraska staying at Offutt AFB for two days. I'm looking forward to the full day of rest and relaxation before its off to Mt. Rushmore for four days.
The sign for Griswold Road absolutely kills me! No further explanation needed.
